Causation

A 2021 consensus statement published in Nature Reviews Endocrinology by 91 scientists concluded that prenatal acetaminophen exposure is associated with increased risk of autism spectrum disorder and ADHD. Studies show acetaminophen disrupts fetal endocrine function, crosses the placenta, and affects neurodevelopment. Plaintiffs allege defendants failed to warn pregnant women about the neurodevelopmental risks despite mounting evidence. Judge Cote in S.D.N.Y. excluded plaintiffs' general causation experts under Daubert in December 2023, but state court cases continue.
